Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What's the deal here?
A: First of all, if you haven't read the general FAQ for wheeloftime.org, you really should.
Q: What's the mood around here?
A: Compared to many sites, we are pretty relaxed. Treat everyone you meet with respect and dignity, but don't think you have to lick the boots of your superiors to be a valued member of our community. Just be yourself. However, keep in mind we try to promote a mature atmosphere here, so being laid back doesn't mean acting like a twelve year old.
Q: What timeline is this?
A: The early stages of the Trolloc Wars, set a thousand years after the Breaking of the World, and two thousand years before the adventures of the characters depicted in Jordan's books.
Q: How can I join?
A: You should see a "join" button on the left-hand frame. Fill out all the relevant info and an org leader should get in touch with you shortly.
Q: What characters can I create?
A: Within certain limits, any character that can plausibly fit within the Wheel of Time universe, as well as the particular timeline, will be accepted. Please be aware we do not have Seanchan, Whitecloaks, or Asha'man in this timeline. Also, you can't play Rand, Mat, Perrin, or anyone else from Jordan's books because they won't be born for another two millennia.
We do have Wolfkin, Ogier, and Aiel in this timeline. However, these characters played a supporting role at best during the Trolloc Wars. For organizational purposes, anyone playing said type of character will be attached to the Ten Nations, under ultimate command of the Ten Nations org leader. Trolloc Wars reserves the right to limit the number of aforementioned characters to ensure the Ten Nations isn't overflowing with armies of these characters.
Also be aware there is and only ever will be one Forsaken in this timeline: Ba'alzamon. (Ba'alzamon is on NPC status: that means he is not played by a single member of the site but may be written into posts by other players.) The other twelve Chosen are hibernating with the Dark One in the Bore and will be doing so for another two thousand years. Please don't try creating a Forsaken or other similarly powerful character; such an application would be politely but completely rejected.
Q: Do you guys do something with Shara?
A: Yes and no. We have constructed a hypothetical culture of what Shara might have looked like in this timeline, which departs somewhat from descriptions given in various reference books. However, Shara is not a full time organization. A limited number of characters can play Sharans on a temporary basis as secondary characters.
Q: Who is in charge around here?
A: Corey al'Thoren al'Simara & Memnoch are the chief executive officers. They help build and maintain the site, set general policies, and help newbies find appropriate organizations to join.
However, the real power at Trolloc Wars are the organization leaders. Organizations are the heart of our community, providing a common forum for characters of similar roleplaying allegiances and interests. The organization leader and her minions will handle the vast amount of your problems, concerns, and questions. You should consider them the first line of authority in all matters and treat them with all due respect.
Q: What if I have a problem with my org leader and/or her lieutenants?
A: You should confront the appropriate individual in private, using all due tact, diplomacy, and civility. Your org leaders are not power mad dictators, and will not expel you for politely raising a concern. If you still cannot resolve the matter, you may contact Corey al'Thoren al'Simara & Memnoch, but the policies org leaders set for their members will rarely be overturned.
Q: What if I have a problem with Corey al'Thoren al'Simara & Memnoch or the site as a whole?
A: In the unlikely event that occurs, politely bring it to our attention.
Q: Can I be on the Trolloc Wars Staff?
A: All the positions at Trolloc Wars are currently filled. Once in a blue moon a staff member may be removed for negligence of duties or resign; in such instances, the TW staff shall collectively find a trustworthy, active member of the site to fill in as the replacement. But please don't ask us for a position; if we want you, we shall come to you.
Q: Are there any rules for roleplaying?
A: Only a few common sense ones.
1) - Be thoughtful of other people. No character played by a member of this site may be killed, harmed, or captured without that player's permission.
2) - Be respectful to org leaders and their sensitivities. If you're going to kill off a high ranking Aes Sedai or Dreadlord, or a member of royalty, even if they are not specifically played by a member of this site, you should ask permission of the appropriate org leader.
3) - Be mature. Sex, volence, and profanity have their place if they are used tastefully, but not if they are used excessively or in a juvenile manner. Writing the equivalent of an adolescent wet dream is not going to earn you much respect around here.
4) - Be realistic. Don't turn you character into a god or goddess. A well-trained soldier can hold his own against one Trolloc, but not ten. A Fade can kill anybody in a sword fight except a blademaster or seasoned warder. The average Aes Sedai can fend off several Trollocs by her lonesome self, but not an entire legion. If your org leader thinks you are taking your character's abilities too far, she will politely point it out to you.
Q: Speaking of abilities, what's the deal with the Weapons and One Power scores?
A: When you join you will be assigned to an org, and your org leader will confer upon your character numerical values representing your weapons and (if applicable) channeling abilities. The numbers you are assigned will reflect the best assessment of the abilities your org leader thinks your character should have based on that character's profession and personal history. The numbers are not the end all and be all of your abilities, but a general guide you can use to know the extent of your talents when you roleplay with other characters.
Q: What's the starting level for the abilities, and can they increase?
A: Most characters start out average. Warders, of course, get an average weapons score which is high relative to other characters' weapons score. In most instances, however, an individual will receive average scores.
In time, as you prove yourself a worthy roleplayer, your score can increase within certain limits, reflecting your character's increasing training/experience. If you want to increase your abilities, make frequent, quality roleplaying posts.
Q: Why do you have this system?
A: Prior experience teaches us if we let people have whatever abilities they wanted, many players, especially the younger players, would all want to be Forsaken class channelers or highly trained blademasters. It's no fun playing in an environment where every second person can kill you easily with one stroke of the blade or a flash of the One Power. To prevent everyone from having god-like abilities, most people will start out with average scores for their profession. In time, with quality roleplaying, those scores will increase. Thus we have a system where the best roleplayers receive the best abilities. We view this as the fairest system possible.
Q: Where can I find a list of these abilities? And while I am at it, where can I find a map of the Ten Nations, a timeline, and other useful stuff?
A: All these useful things and more should be on your org's private web page. A link for an archive of rp posts can be found on the TW lefthand frame.
Q: Anything else I should know?
A: Yes. Every org has its own policies, and you should be aware of the special rules for the org that you have joined. Every org has a private web site with a FAQ. In addition, org officers are always willing to answer your questions.
Any other questions, e-mail them to Trolloc_Wars@wheeloftime.org .
